The Former Telegraph Repeater Station, initially constructed in 1931, was designed to accommodate an engine room, lineman's room, distilling room, a large central room (later divided in 1940 to house a carrier equipment room and battery room), a flat concrete roofed toilet and fuelling facility at the southern end. Two rainwater tanks were situated to the east of the building.
Extensions to the eastern side of the building were undertaken in the early- mid 1940s in order to house additional equipment and staff. Extensions and alterations to the Post Office also occurred at this time. These additions were made using identical patterned concrete to match the original.
Like the Former Post Office, the construction of the Former Repeater Station is characterised by the use of patterned cement blocks on concrete floor slabs with a reinforced concrete lintel and hipped roof of galvanised corrugated iron.
